Remedial massage is considered a more clinical approach to soft tissue dysfunction and damage. It aims to assist to soothe and promote healing and repair to damaged areas of the muscular system. This technique helps with muscle damage, tension, and flexibility, some of the common complaints that are treated include: muscle cramps, back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, sciatic pain, knee pain, headaches, bad posture and many other long term niggling muscular ailments. Remedial massage looks to prevent and/or repair these types of problems in the body.
Remedial massage is designed to remedy the body, It aims to treat physical pain and dysfunction and so the focus is not on how the recipient is feeling or enjoying the massage but how to correct or prevent problems in the body. Remedial massage often uses deep, kneading motions, holding of trigger points, stretching and pulling that can sometimes cause the recipient a bit of discomfort. This discomfort usually dissipates when the therapists stops, but the client can feel a little sore for a day or two after the session, the best results usually felt by the third day post treatment.
Important tips for post massage treatment;
- Drink lot’s of water ! massage moves and releases toxins around the body, so water will help in the flushing out process.
- Try to rest as much as possible after the treatment, its not often you will feel this relaxed.
- Avoid any heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for about two days after treatment, your body is recovering and possibly realigning itself. Please let it do so.
- Stretch your body, this is a great time to increase flexibility.
- Work on your mind e.g. meditation. Post treatment is a great time to continue relaxing your mind, most of the hard work has been done through the physical body, its now a good time to continue the process.
